Tottenham Hotspur may need to take a major gamble this January if they are to sign one of Europe’s hottest talents.
Ajax’s 18-year-old midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is a name that is already on the minds of a number of big clubs in Europe right now, with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus reportedly interested in bringing him on board.
And based on his attributes, lined out in the latest edition of Tifo Football’s Sensible Transfers, he appears to be someone that would be a great piece to add to the team at Spurs. But on the same video, Jose Mourinho’s men were warned that it could be a case of ‘now or never’ if they were to bring him on board from under the noses of the other teams in Europe.
He said: “Ryan Gravenberch would be a luxury option. At 18 he’s far from fully mature, but it won’t be long before every major club in Europe is after him. To have a reasonable chance, Spurs would have to make a leap of faith before his price tag takes him out of reach.”
Should Spurs gamble and sign Gravenberch this Janaury?

The video also explains how Tottenham’s financial situation, given their lost revenue with no fans in the stands also factors into the equation, meaning that Daniel Levy, already known for his frugalness might not be willing to spend ‘big money’ any time soon.
So if they want to go ‘cheap’ on him, then now is the time to do it.
If Spurs really do believe that Jose Mourinho is the man to take them forward as a club and someone that can lay the foundations for a long spell of success in the future, then a signing like this would surely be a statement of intent.
And whilst Mourinho isn’t known for sticking around, given the age of most of his summer signings, you can make the argument future is certainly what they are building for in North London right now, so there certainly is no smoke without fire.
