Tottenham Hotspur fans have been showing their appreciation after Alasdair Gold’s comments made about midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

The midfielder has been something of a revelation since making the move from Southampton in the summer, playing every minute for the team in the league, and racking up a WhoScored.com rating of 7.00, which puts him as Spurs’ 4th-best performer so far this season.

Journalist Gold had summarised the Dane’s impression in a recent article for Football.london in which he claimed he “has made a huge impression inside the club since arriving with his whole ethos and the way he operates in training as well as in matches”.

That ethos was probably best demonstrated by his willingness to carry on despite being on the receiving end of a horror tackle in the recent victory over Brentford.  And when they saw these comments made by Gold, the fans just couldn’t contain themselves on social media, as they too showed their appreciation for the 25-year-old’s efforts throughout the season:

He needs his own song”

“Best signing we’ve made since Son”

“Best signing in a long time. Has secured one CM position for years to come.”
“Has to be one of the best signings we’ve made in years. For what he brings to the team and the importance I can’t think of another player who comes close in recent years.”
“You can tell he’s utterly committed to spurs and this shines through every time he plays. Great signing”
“Next captain of the club – Hojbjerg or Kane? Tough choice imo”
“Our Dave Mackay from the glory years transported into 2020/21”

Do you think Hojbjerg has been the signing of the season?

Yes, he has been brilliant

Yes, he has been brilliant

No, he hasn't been that good

No, he hasn't been that good

He certainly looks to have made some good impressions so far, and having signed a five-year deal back in the summer, he’ll have plenty of time to make more of them.
