Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest comments made by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson on the north London club.

This comes after Spurs podcast Twitter page @LastWordOnSpurs shared a post on their page that contained footage of Merson speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, posted onto Twitter by Football Daily (originated from Sky Sports), about Spurs’ title hopes for this season.

A nice easy one to start off with, who is Tottenham's record signing?

The footage shows Merson saying prior to their clash against Sheffield United, that he thinks Spurs are in with a “great chance” of winning the Premier League this season because of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Spurs fans who were quick to share their thoughts on what Merson had to say.

So, what did these Spurs fans have to say in response to Merson’s comments?

“it’ll be a struggle to get top 6 so another delusional statement from Merson.”

@mogens_nielsen

The world is ending right? Spurs fans think we are not getting a sniff of anything, and he thinks we can. Must be a joke”

@najombi

“Welp it’s over then”

@COYSonny7

“Reverse psychology. He knows whatever he says the opposite happens”

@yvonnehazard

“But you forget something we have dier and Sanchez at the back wont win any titles with that defense”

@Zwelihlekhuzwa2

“Confirmation that we’re out of the title race”

@THFCNiall_

“Blimey he’s changed his tune”

@MarkUK_

Looking at the replies to this post, it appears that these Spurs fans are rather surprised at Merson’s comments, which could be down to the fact that he’s a former Arsenal player, as well as him slamming Spurs on multiple occasions in the past.

Do you think Spurs can realistically win the league this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Spurs can feel slightly more confident about a potential title charge after getting the better of Sheffield United earlier on today, with Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Serge Aurier grabbing the goals.
