Football journalist Duncan Castles has been sharing some details on Southampton’s reported interest in signing Leicester City winger Demarai Gray.
This comes after Castles recently co-hosted the latest episode of the Transfer Window Podcast where he spoke about a range of transfer-related news stories going around at the moment.
On the topic of Gray, Castles had this to say on Southampton’s interest in the winger. (33.16)
He said: “Southampton, are one club that have expressed an interest in signing the player and I’m told that is something that Gray would seriously consider, because of you know, Southampton’s qualities as a club, but also the potential to play regularly re-establishing itself as a first-team Premier League footballer and make a case for being part of the England international team.”
The 24-year-old signed to Leicester back in the 2016 January transfer window from Birmingham City for a fee of £4.59 million.
Since then, the winger, who is currently valued at £10.8 million, has made 169 appearances for the Foxes in which he has managed to score 13 goals and provide 17 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts on Duncan Castles’ comments on Southampton’s interest in Gray…
Given how Gray has only made one appearance for Leicester in the Premier League this season coming off the bench, this shows that he may not be needed at the club anymore, therefore potentially opening the door for a move to somewhere like Southampton.
Would you take Demarai Gray at Southampton?
In our view, if the Saints do make an offer for Gray this month and can guarantee him some regular playing time, then this could well be a smart move for the winger.
