Lots of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to slate central midfielder Jonjo Shelvey over his performance in the Toon’s latest Premier League game versus Everton.
The midfielder, who earns £70k-per-week at St. James’ Park, per Spotrac, started this game to make his 13th Premier League appearance of the season.
Per ChronicleLive, the 28-year-old committed a ‘cynical’ foul in the 21st minute of the game for which he was booked.
Just three minutes later, he had a notable goalscoring chance but his effort was deflected wide.
So, what have these Newcastle United fans been saying about Shelvey?
That goalscoring attempt wasn’t enough to win over many fans of the North East club, however, as the Englishman has been receiving criticism from many Toon supporters on Twitter.
“Shelvey is awful in every aspect stupid fouls constantly”
“Criminal from Shelvey there, we had the ball but he’s just kicked out and give them a good chance”
“Shelvey is nothing but a liability #nufc”
“#NUFC looking ok at the minute , much improved but Shelvey is playing with them lead boots in again”
“Shelvey already looks so out of depth
#EVENEW #NUFC #BruceOut”
“Shelvey, unbelievably unfit #NUFC #EVENEW #BRUCEOUT”
Is this criticism fair?
YES
NO
“Shelvey is an absolute awful footballer. Should be no where near premier league level”
“Shelvey is finished. Constantly giving the ball away or giving away fouls. He’s way past it #NUFC”
All in all, it’s clear that many Newcastle fans expect Shelvey to be producing better performances than he has produced at Goodison Park.
