Many Newcastle United fans have been blasting Toon midfielder Jeff Hendrick over his performance in the North East club’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Saturday

The 28-year-old was given a match rating of 4/10 by 90min for his performance versus the Villans, suggesting that the Republic of Ireland international didn’t make enough of an impact on the game, calling him ‘a shadow’.

It was the joint-lowest rating that the publication gave to any Toon player in this game, with only Hendrick, Fabian Schar and Javier Manquillo being rated this low.

So, what have these Newcastle United fans been saying about Hendrick?

Plenty of Newcastle United fans would seemingly be in agreement with the negative assessment of Hendrick’s performance, as the £8.1m-rated man has come in for a lot of criticism from members of the St. James’ Park faithful on Twitter.

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

“Jeff Hendrick offers nothing in our team, Shelvey can’t be bothered, Carroll one trick pony. Lewis look scared. Schar is an angry man. #NUFC are shambolic and devoid of ideas. How much longer is this going to go for man?”

Before kick-off, ChronicleLive’s Andrew Musgrove called for Hendrick to ‘step up and show everyone why he’s getting picked’ at Villa Park and as can be seen from these Toon fans’ tweets, it seems like many Newcastle supporters feel that he failed to do this on Saturday.
