Newcastle United fans were not impressed by the efforts put in by midfielder Jonjo Shelvey during the first-half against Leeds United.

It’s a game that Steve Bruce’s men desperately need to get something from, having gone 10 games without a victory in all competitions resulting in the club sliding down the league table and pressure mounting on the man in the dugout.

Even though the game isn’t necessarily a ‘must-win’ for the Magpies, it is a game that is important if the club were to stop the rot and hopefully get things back on track. However, one player who didn’t quite seem to get that message, at least in the eyes of the fans, was Shelvey.

Top scorer in their league campaign last season, he’s one of many players to have gone off the boil during this one, failing to find the back of the net so far this season. But more than just his lack of finishing, there were plenty of other aspects that fans were willing to tear into him for:

“Shelvey‘s laziness as permeated the entire team.”

“Shelvey is appalling – a few decent passes every 10 matches does make a premier league footballer #nufc #bruceout
“Shelvey does realise he can run right?”
“Shelvey absolutely robbing a living.”
“Shelvey gets bypassed every time. Might as well not be on the pitch out of possession.”
“Shelvey lately hasn’t been able to pass, tackle, shoot, move what exactly does he offer?”
“Shelvey has the acceleration of a barge, a barge with no engine”

Have you been impressed with Shelvey this season?

Not a good day at the office for the 28-year-old as half time neared.
