Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

One of the main topics that the Shields Gazette reporter spent some time on was the Toon’s proposed takeover by PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers that was withdrawn in July 2020.

Since the deal was initially withdrawn legal proceedings against the Premier League have started and are still ongoing as Mike Ashley looks for a way to force the takeover through.

So, Kennedy was asked if the takeover went through could he see Rafael Benitez returning to be the manager of Newcastle and he provided a short but positive response.

He said: “I think Rafa Benitez is absolutely in the box-seat to be Newcastle United manager in the not-too-distant future – if the takeover gets the green light.”

Would you want Benitez back?

TIF Thoughts on Benitez potentially returning to the Toon…

While the Spaniard was the manager of Newcastle, he gave the fans hope and could see the club’s potential, so if he were to return and be backed by the immense wealth that PIF has, it could be very exciting times for Newcastle.

Benitez has been successful at pretty much every club he has been at, and you would have to think that with the right backing he could make the Toon challenge again and potentially win a trophy.

However, we feel that all of this talk is a bit pointless until the whole takeover situation is resolved.

So, we will just have to see what happens with the legal proceedings, but if they are successful, then we think Benitez would be a great appointment for the Toon.
