Liam Kennedy has been speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith about all things Newcastle United.

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

One of the topics that he spent a lot of time on was Steve Bruce’s future after the Toon lost 1-0 to Sheffield United to hand the Blades their first league win of the season.

This made it eight games without a win; however, it doesn’t look like Bruce’s future is in danger yet, according to Kennedy – while these claims were backed up by Keith Downie in the aftermath of the defeat at Bramall Lane.

However, with the proposed takeover of the Toon currently going through arbitration, the Shields Gazette reporter wonders how long it will take for Mike Ashley to change his mind about Bruce.

He said: “The noises I have been hearing is that he isn’t going to pull the trigger, but how quickly will that change?

“We are talking high stakes here. This is high stakes; he’s a gambler, but there’s a lot of money on the line. There’s the £300+ million takeover, there are the caveats that come with that, the other business interests etc.

“This is more than just a sale of a football club for that man. Will he risk all that? Is it really worth the risk?”

Do you think Ashley will sack Bruce soon?

No, he is going to wait too long

TIF Thoughts on Bruce’s future…

The Toon appear to be getting worse with each passing game, while those below them like Burnley and Fulham have strung some form together.

Scott Parker’s men are seven points behind Newcastle but are unbeaten in their last five league games, so appear to be gaining momentum.

By contrast, the Toon just lost to a side who had failed to win any of their first 17 league games, so it doesn’t look good.

One of the conditions for the takeover still going ahead is that the Toon are in the Premier League, so it will be interesting to see how long Ashley is willing to let Bruce keep his job.

We hope that surely he will consider the money he could miss out on and act quickly and sack Bruce before it is too late.
