Lee Ryder has been speaking on the latest edition of the Everything is Black and White podcast about all things relating to Newcastle United.

1 of 8

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

One of the topics that he spent a little bit of time on was Steve Bruce’s future after a dreadful run of results that has seen Newcastle fail to win any of their last nine games.

This has led to questions over Bruce’s future who has insisted he won’t walk away from the Toon job and has the full backing of Mike Ashley at the moment.

However, if that backing were to change and Ashley did decide that enough was enough, Ryder mentioned Mark Hughes and Tony Pulis as two potential candidates for the role.

He said: “I don’t think it would be another Rafa Benitez – I think it’s more likely to be somebody out of work, someone like Tony Pulis, Mark Hughes, those kinds of names.

“Obviously Sam Allardyce isn’t available because he’s got another survival job on his hands at West Brom; whether he would have come back to Newcastle, we don’t know, but he reckons that he got asked to do the job two summers ago before Bruce got the job.

“There’s always going to be someone who’s prepared to come in and take the job because there are always going to be people who are out of work.”

Would you be happy with either Hughes or Pulis?

No, they are both finished

No, they are both finished

Yes, they might do better than Bruce

Yes, they might do better than Bruce

TIF Thoughts on Ryder’s claims…

The names that Ryder mentions are pretty uninspiring really considering Pulis was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday in his last job after one win in ten league games and Hughes has been out of work since Southampton sacked him in 2018 after just three league wins.

So, it looks like even if Newcastle were to sack Bruce the replacements out there are probably not going to instil excitement amongst the Toon’s fanbase.

We hope that Newcastle find a way out of this poor run of form and drag themselves away from the relegation zone or they could find someone like Hughes or Pulis in charge at some point.
