A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to Twitter to discuss Joelinton’s performance in the Toon’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Joelinton started this game at left midfield, giving the £18m-rated man, who moved to St. James’ Park from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim in the summer of 2019, his 21st appearance in all competitions for the Toon of the 2020/21 campaign.
The Brazilian received some criticism from ChronicleLive in their live blog on this FA Cup match for failing to make the most of a potential goalscoring opportunity in the 20th minute, as they stated that he ‘should do better.’
So, what have these Newcastle United fans been saying about Joelinton?
That 20th-minute chance may give us one explanation as to why it seems as though many Toon supporters feel that Joelinton has played badly versus Arsenal, with plenty of Newcastle fans taking to Twitter to slate the 24-year-old.
“Can we swap the bag of potatoes back for Joelinton #NUFC”
“Joelinton 2nd touch is a tackle”
“Joelinton just can’t taka a ball. It always bounces off him to an opposition player…”
“What a joke of a player joelinton is #FACup”
“Joelinton really is awful isn’t he”
Is this criticism of Joelinton fair?
YES
NO
“Joelinton has the movement of a tortoise carrying a bag of heavy shopping. #nufc”
“Joelinton is a terrible terrible footballer!”
So, judging by these tweets, it’s clear that many fans of the North East club feel that Joelinton’s performance has been subpar versus the Gunners.
