A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from The Chronicle, which contains a link to their live blog including a claim from El Periódicio Mediterráneo that Villarreal are interested in signing Javier Manquillo.

Starting with an easy one, how much did Joelinton cost Newcastle when he swapped Hoffenheim for Tyneside?

The former Liverpool man only just signed a new deal with the Toon in the summer of 2020, but he has not played for Newcastle since the Toon won 2-0 against Crystal Palace.

However, he was on the bench for Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, and given how bad Emil Krafth was, you would think he has a chance of playing against Aston Villa on Saturday – unless he leaves, of course.

This post has drawn in these Newcastle fans, who would be baffled if Manquillo were to be let go.

One player I’d keep hold off… Get shot of Yedlin first”

@LeeRutter5

Be stupid to let go. Krafth linked with a move away today too, but I’d be inclined to letting him go. Yedlin and Krafth should be out the door before Manquillo”

@NUFCIrving1010

Thought he had just signed a new contract last year?? Seems a waste of a signing on fee if that’s the case….”

@onmyshoe

Better than the rest of the right backs at the club. Punt the lot and sign Max Aarons.”

@17jamesbeedie

“He’s our best right back”

@THEUNKN_1

Do you want to keep Manquillo?

Yes, he is our best right-back

Yes, he is our best right-back

No, get rid

No, get rid

However, other Toon fans would be happy to see the £3.6m-rated Spaniard leave St James’ Park.

“Take him and a few others…”

@zee1783

Let him go for 5m then bring in Jetro willems as a replacement.”

It is unclear what will happen with Manquillo, but given that he has until the summer of 2024 on his current deal, we can’t imagine that he will be going anywhere soon and most of these Toon fans are hoping that he stays.
