Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans who were quick to share their thoughts on this news on Saint-Maximin.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in regards to Bruce’s comments on Saint-Maximin?

“Something doesn’t sit right with me with this whole situation. Yes he’s had covid but he also hasn’t been seen since the reported bust up before the Southampton game. Very strange.”

@thetoonreview

“Gone in january… for his sake I hope he goes on to much better things with a much better team! Love the man but totally wasted here and will never achieve anything so has to leave.”

@stan1420

“Questions need asking not why it is taking so long for recovery but why he is still in France Bruce is hiding something on this”

@Toon_army1982

“100% gone in January scared off getting injured that’s why he is not playing”

@gary66863582

“Occurred to me yesterday… what are the chances there has been a big money move for him and he is basically on gardening leave? Just wouldn’t put it past Ashley and improved contract to up the sales price makes sense.”

@nufc74

“Think he’s sick of Bruce’s terrible footy.”

Newcastle signed the 23-year-old back in August 2019 from OGC Nice for a fee of £16.2 million. Since then, the winger, who is currently valued at £28.8 million, has made 39 appearances for the club in which he has managed to score five goals and provide eight assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Saint-Maximin’s last appearance for Newcastle came back in November during the club’s 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.

Looking at these replies from this group of Toon fans, it appears that some are feeling suspicious about the winger’s prolonged absence from the squad, with some suggesting he could be readying an exit from St. James’ Park during the current January transfer window.

Do you think Saint-Maximin will leave Newcastle this month?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With the winger earning himself a respectable season rating of 6.94/10 for his performances in the Premier League so far this season, making him the joint-third highest rated player for Newcastle, it would make sense for the club to try and keep hold of him for as long as possible because of how important he is for the team.
