Duncan Castles has been speaking on the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast about news from various Premier League clubs.

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

One of the clubs that Castles mentioned was Newcastle United, and he claimed that the Toon have made a late bid to try and sign Moises Caicedo who looked to be joining Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, there have been problems with that move made by Brighton, and the Toon could come back to the table with another offer.

He said: “As of [Monday] it seemed [Brighton] had the player despite Newcastle United making a late attempt to undercut them, agree a different deal with Independiente, offer better terms, I am told, to the player and bring him to Newcastle.

“That changed – as of this morning [Tuesday], I was being told that there was a major issue with one of the agents involved in the deal.

“Information I have is that, that agent was not [a] registered agent from Moises Caicedo with the Ecuadorian FA and therefore, there was a concern that should the deal be completed with that agent, there could be an investigation down the line and problems with that transfer going forward, which of course is something that a buying club will desperately want to avoid.

“That’s allowed Newcastle United to come back into the negotiations and try and work on completing a deal.”

Castles then claimed that top talent scouts like Luis Campos the former Sporting Director of both Monaco and Lille think that Caicedo could be a special player.

He said: “There’s always a big element of risk involved with players of this age and moving them across continents at this age, but whoever wins this if you talk to top talent scouts in football, and we had one of the best talent scouts in football on this podcast just last week in an exclusive interview with Luis Campos, they’ll tell you that this player has a very, very good chance of turning out to be top-tier.”

Do you think Newcastle will sign Caicedo?

No, Brighton will get him

Yes, we might do the deal

TIF Thoughts on Caicedo potentially moving to Newcastle…

The 19-year-old is a natural central midfielder and seems to have some talent and is rated highly in footballing circles.

So, you would think that if the Toon could beat the Seagulls to his signature, they would be signing a player with a lot of potential.

Certainly, judging by what Castles said it looks like Newcastle at least have a chance of signing Caicedo and on the evidence of their defeat against Sheffield United they could do with some reinforcements as the likes of Jeff Hendrick and Sean Longstaff were particularly awful.
