Liam Kennedy has been speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith about all things relating to Newcastle United.
One of the main topics that he spoke about was transfer rumours, and one player who came up in this discussion was Brandon Williams.
Kennedy published a piece in the Shields Gazette on Tuesday claiming that the Toon were looking at a deal for the Manchester United youngster, and he provided a short update on that deal here.
He said: “Brandon Williams was somebody that I wrote about this morning [Tuesday].
“They’ve largely got that deal lined up.
“He looks a solid enough defender, solid enough going forward.
“He has been brought in as a left-back at Manchester United; I am not necessarily saying that’s his natural position, he might well be a right-back by nature.
“[He] would be a young player – he’s only 20 – so can be added to the squad quite easily, and I think that’s something they could progress.”
Do you want Newcastle to sign Williams?
No, we don't need him
Yes, could be a good addition
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle signing Williams…
The 20-year-old is seen as a natural left-back by Transfermarkt, so you would think if he were to join Newcastle, he would be providing competition for Matt Ritchie and Jamal Lewis, who have both played in that role this season.
Williams seems to be highly thought of by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has been described as an “excellent defender” by Paul Scholes.
So, this could prove to be a good addition for Newcastle, and if Kennedy is to be believed, it looks like they have set up the framework for that deal.
So, we will be keeping an eye out to see how quickly this transfer progresses, but we feel as if, given his reputation, he could prove to be a strong signing for the Toon.
