Lee Ryder has been speaking on the latest edition of the Everything is Black & White podcast about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

One of the topics that he spent a little bit of time on was the Toon’s proposed takeover by PCP Capital Partners, PIF, and the Reuben brothers that was withdrawn in July.

The Chronicle reporter claimed that for the takeover to still have a chance of happening, the Toon must remain in the Premier League.

Newcastle are currently eight points clear of the relegation zone but are on a bad run of form in the league and face Sheffield United on Tuesday night as they look to turn that around.

While Ryder was talking about this match, he said this on the takeover.

He said: (3:29) “Newcastle have to stay up; not only if the current owner continues to stay, they need Premier League status, [and] they need the money.

“If he doesn’t stay, if someone else is going to come in, they will want to be buying a Premier League club.

“We’re hearing talk that PIF from Saudi Arabia if they want to stay in talks with Newcastle [to buy them], it has to be Newcastle as a Premier League club; they’re not interested if Newcastle get relegated, that’s what we have been told.”

Do you think PIF will walk away soon?

Yes, they must be losing patience

Yes, they must be losing patience

No, they still want this

No, they still want this

TIF Thoughts on Ryder’s information…

In the initial deal, PIF were going to take an 80% stake in the club and have some serious wealth backing them, so you would think that if they walked away, the whole takeover would collapse.

They have stuck around for quite a while on this, but it seems as if the Toon have to remain a Premier League club or they will end their interest.

You could argue this makes the game against the Blades pretty big for Newcastle, and three points could pull them 11 points clear of the relegation zone, which it seems would be important for the Toon’s takeover hopes.

So, we hope that Newcastle do beat Sheffield United so that the threat of relegation is eased and the hopes of the takeover remain.
