Supporters of Newcastle United have recently reacted to a transfer report linking the Toon with Schalke 04’s Rabbi Matondo.

According to a recent report by Bild, as cited by Bundesliga Latest, the Welshman is set to leave his German club on loan during the January transfer window.

Supposedly, there are several Premier League sides eyeing a move for the 20-year-old winger and one has already offered a loan without an option to purchase him.

Listed in the report as sides that may make a swoop for Matondo is Steve Bruce’s Magpies, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The tweet from Bundesliga Latest was then picked up by NUFC 360 and it had lots of Newcastle fans discussing the transfer link between the Toon and the Welshman.

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say about the transfer link with Rabbi Matondo?

“Just for everybody‘s information from a German Newcastle Fan: He‘s not what we need or want. He can run, that’s it. He‘s not on the ball, can’t string a pass together and has nothing to offer when it comes to the end product. We’ve got way better options in the squad already”

“Lazaro 2.0 situation ….plus we have same if not better then him already …. Centre midfield has no legs , no creativity and no tackling ability . If any other position is addressed apart from this I will lose it !”

The 20-year-old winger has until the summer of 2023 on his existing deal with Schalke and a current market value of £7.2m according to Transfermarkt.

Would you be happy if Newcastle signed Rabbi Matondo on loan?

So far this season, Matondo has made three Bundesliga appearances for Schalke, in which he has neither scored a goal nor has he provided an assist (per WhoScored).

Over the three outings, his performances have been weak, too, as he has earned an unimpressive 5.87/10 average rating, making him the third-worst performer in his club’s squad.

“2 goals and 0 assists in 30 games in the Bundesliga, I think we’d do well to avoid to be honest.”

As can be seen in these responses from Newcastle fans, many of them were not keen on the idea of the Toon recruiting Matondo from Schalke in January.
