Newcastle United fell to their fifth consecutive defeat on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa.
Goals from Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore proved to be enough for Dean Smith’s side as they moved up to eighth in the Premier League table.
But Newcastle are sat 16th in the top-flight standings, and are just seven points clear of the relegation zone after their opening 19 matches in this year’s campaign.
The defeat is likely to increase the pressure on Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce, but that didn’t stop him from being encouraged by the performance of his side despite the defeat.
Bruce admitted that there was ‘plenty to work on going forward’ after the defeat at Villa Park, even though they’re edging closer to the relegation zone.

“He’s off his head.”
“He looks lost. He doesn’t believe a word of what he is saying. Empty words.”
“What is he talking about? He’s alone in being encouraged and we are alone in 16th place.”
“I’d hate to see how bad we have to get for him to not be happy and encouraged.”
“excuses after excuses, he needs sacked before it’s game over. We won’t get out the Championship this time.”
“He generally believes every word out of his mouth, fair play standing by what he says but unfortunately what he says makes no sense.”
“What is he on about. He’s lost the dressing room and the plot.”
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing.”
“He’s seen enough?? Does he remember we are the team playing in black and white! He has totally lost it!”
