Liverpool journalist Paul Gorst has been sharing his praise for Reds midfielder Fabinho and his performances for the club so far this season.

This comes after Gorst recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a number of topics concerning the club.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

On the subject of Fabinho, Gorst had this to say about the Brazilian.

He said: “He’s reinvented himself into probably one of the best centre-backs. I think he’s had a fantastic season and he’s probably been Liverpool’s player of the season so far.”

Liverpool signed the midfield man back in July from French side AS Monaco for a fee of £40.5 million. Since then, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £54 million, has made 106 appearances for the Reds across all competitions in which he has managed to score three goals and provide seven assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Despite being a midfield player, Fabinho has played the majority of his appearances for Liverpool so far this season in the centre-back position after the Reds lost both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries earlier in the season.

TIF Thoughts on Paul Gorst’s comments on Fabinho and his current season for Liverpool…

With Reds manager Jurgen Klopp praising Fabinho for his performance against Chelsea earlier in the season where he played in the centre-back role, this shows that he is clearly capable of playing in that position to a high level.

Do you think Fabinho has been Liverpool's best player this season?

In our view, with Fabinho having to move back into defence instead of playing in his usual midfield role, it’s impressive that he has managed to earn himself a decent season rating of 6.92/10 for his performances in the Premier League so far this season and appears to justify Gorst’s comments.
