Supporters of Leeds United have recently flocked to the latest report regarding Udinese’s Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul.

According to a report by Tuttosport, Serie A giants Internazionale have the signing of 26-year-old middleman ‘in their hands’.

Leeds were repeatedly linked with the South American star in the summer.

It is claimed that the deal for the player’s transfer has been lined up to take place in the summer, however, it may happen sooner depending upon Christian Eriksen.

Supposedly, if the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was to leave the club, then ‘there would be room to close immediately‘ and the situation with the Dane is ‘fluid‘.

This report was picked up by TEAMtalk, who claimed that Whites look likely to miss out on De Paul now, with the midfielder having been a ‘top target’ over the summer transfer window.

These claims were relayed to fans on Twitter by James Marshment and they had lots of Leeds supporters talking.

Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

So, what did these Leeds fans have to say about the latest report on Rodrigo de Paul?

“We were never signing him, he and his agent used us to drum up interest and his club allowed it so they got inflated fee. Don’t get me wrong he’d be a class signing but trust Bielsa and Orta to find a suitable player for that role”

“The one that got away. Wrong time for us unfortunately. Had he been in his last summer’s situation this coming summer I’m pretty sure we’d land him. Disappointing but there will be others.”

The Argentinian has until the summer of 2024 on his existing deal with Udinese and a current market value of £31.5m according to Transfermarkt.

Do you think there is any chance of Leeds signing Rodrigo de Paul now?

No, it seems very unlikely

No, it seems very unlikely

Yes, anything is possible

Yes, anything is possible

“I think we lost our chance when we didn’t sign him in the summer. The player he is, potential etc, he was always going to attract other clubs could offer European football. I doubt we will go back in for him in Jan or the summer. He will move to one of the big clubs in Italy.”

“Just move on from him now. Clearly chasing the best offer. Get a more realistic target. We need to add in that area”

Over the duration of the season so far, De Paul has made 17 Serie A appearances for his Italian club, in which he has managed to bag four goals and provide one assist (per WhoScored).

His performances in the league have been stellar, too, as he has earned an impressive 7.44/10 average rating, making him easily the best-performing player for Udinese.

“Come to Leeds, you may not win trophies, but you will be a legend”

“Would be a great signing for us but I belive we had our chance in summer. I don’t think we are open to that type of signing money wise when we could potentially get Pulgar and Draxler for less.. much like White/Koch/llorente”

“Really think we have missed out big time here, this guy was cheap at €40 million on this seasons form”

As can be seen in these responses from Leeds fans, many supporters clearly seem to believe there is little chance of the Whites landing the Argentine now.
