Leeds United fans have scoffed at the opportunity to sign free-agent forward Diego Costa in the coming weeks.

Ever since the 30-year-old was released by Atletico Madrid, there’s been plenty of debate about a potential destination for the former Chelsea man, and it appears as though Leeds could be one of them according to former Premier League forward Kevin Phillips.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips believes that Elland Road could be a great place for Costa to land, because their style of play will create plenty of goal-scoring opportunities for him. The story was then picked up by Leeds United Live who shared it on their Facebook page.

To which the response, was well and truly ‘no’ from those fans online, who seemed to believe that he would be a disruptive presence in the incredible side that they have managed to put together under Marcelo Bielsa:

“He would spoil the team spirit we have, I fear. Not for me.”

Howard Shinn

“Great player, wrong attitude. Dont see how him and bielsa will fit.”

Sy Potter

“He’s not a side before self guy.”

Jason Stephenson

“Imagine bielsas reaction the first time Costa has a tantrum, he’d be gone”

Jack Forster

“No way trouble from the offset adios amigo”

Kevin Oxley

“Too much trouble that comes with him”

Arron McCourt

Should Leeds be pursuing Diego Costa?

Costa is known for being a bit of a pain to deal with from his previous clubs, so Leeds fans are right to be wary of that aspect of his game. But at the end of the day, if he could possibly help the team, isn’t it worth at least exploring the option? Although on a reported £250k per week, it would be a pretty big gamble for anyone to take on and might be a stumbling block for others.
