Speaking recently on talkSPORT, Jordan Jarrett Bryan claimed that both Mason Mount and James Maddison are better players than Aston Villa midfielder, Jack Grealish.
So far this season, Aston Villa have highly impressed in the Premier League, winning eight, drawing two and losing five our their 15 league fixtures, results which have left them in 10th place in the table – just eight points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, despite having played three games less than Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And, central to Villa’s fine form has been club captain, Jack Grealish, who has scored five goals and provided seven assists over his 15 Premier League games, as well as averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.92 – ranking him as not only the club’s best performer in the top flight but also as the second-best player in the Premier League as a whole.
However, speaking recently to talkSPORT, Jarrett Bryan stated his belief that both Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Leicester City’s James Maddison are better midfielders than the £45 million-rated Villa man, much to the bemusement of Gabriel Agbonlahor.
He said (0:30): “I’m having Maddison over him, by the way. I like Jack Grealish, I do like him. I’m having Maddison and Mount over him. I think Mount’s got more to his game than Jack Grealish.
“Jack Grealish is phenomenal at a couple of things. I think Mason Mount – I’m being deadly serious – I’ve always thought Mason Mount is a more complete midfielder. I think he’s got more attributes that are a seven or eight out of 10 [and] Jack Grealish has got a couple of nines and that’s about it.
“I think what Mount is very, very good at – what I think he’s better at – his positional play is better. I think he takes up better positions than Jack Grealish and I actually think he’s a better finisher than Jack Grealish.”
Is Jarrett Bryan is right about Grealish?
TIF Thoughts on Jordan Jarrett Bryan’s comments regarding Jack Grealish…
Considering the fact that, so far this season, Grealish has more goals involvements (12) than both Mount (two goals and three assists) and Maddison (five goals and two assists), as well as a higher average WhoScored match rating than both the Chelsea and Leicester midfielders (7.42 and 7.05 respectively), the stats would seem to argue against Jarrett Bryan’s claim that both players are better than Grealish.
In addition to this, Mount plays for a side who finished in fourth place in the Premier League last season and Maddison for a side who finished fifth, while Grealish plays for a team who escaped relegation by a single point – eventually finishing in 17th place.
As such, in our opinion, Grealish is quite comfortably the better of the three players, something that the statistics would also appear to back up.
