This comes after Murphy recently made an appearance on the latest episode of the OTB Football Podcast where he spoke about a number of different subjects concerning the Premier League.

First up in this Gareth Barry quiz, which club did Villa sign the midfielder from?

On the topic of Villa’s reported interest in Brooks, Murphy had this to say on the matter.

He said: “The worry when you hear of them signing somebody like David Brooks is, is he a Jack Grealish replacement?

“I know he generally plays more on the right, but he can sort of play anywhere, that’s why he would be such an attractive signing for Villa, is that he can play in the right of a front three, he can play a little bit deeper in midfield and Bournemouth have been selling so far – they’ve got rid of [Ryan] Fraser and [Callum] Wilson already. It is whether they’d be willing to sell him in January when they’re putting together a pretty decent push for promotion back to the Premier League, but at his best, he was nominated for Young Footballer of the Year when was at his best, he’s still only 23 – so for Villa, if they can get him for £15-20 million, [he’d be] a very good signing.”

Bournemouth signed Brooks back in July 2018 from Sheffield United for a fee of £10.17 million. Since then, the winger, who is currently valued at £16.2 million, has made 61 appearances for the Cherries in which he has managed to score 12 goals and provide 10 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Nathan Murphy’s comments on Villa’s potential move for Brooks…

With Brooks having managed to score eight goals and providing five assists in the 39 games he’s played in the Premier League so far throughout his career, this could make him a useful addition to Dean Smith’s squad.

Also, with Ross Barkley on a season-long loan deal at the club and could well be leaving in the summer, Brooks could make a decent replacement for him in our view.
