In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

Romano went into great detail on both potential incomings and outgoings at the Emirates Stadium this month.

One player he spoke about was Shkodran Mustafi, who has until the end of June left on his contract and has been linked with a move to Barcelona.

He said: “Genoa were really interested; before contacting Sokratis, they were trying for Mustafi but there was no agreement about the salary.

“Let’s see if any other club will [register an interest] – at the moment, I don’t have anything confirmed about Barcelona.

“So, at the moment, with Mustafi there is nothing advanced, but for sure he’s a player ready to leave the club in the coming days. He’s not [intending] to extend his contract – at the moment – because in football, never say never.

“But for sure, he’s another of the players who can leave the club.”

Do you think Mustafi will leave in this window?

TIF Thoughts on Mustafi’s future…

So, it looks like nothing has happened with Mustafi yet, but he is prepared to leave the Gunners.

This season the former German international has barely played for Arsenal, making just nine appearances in all competitions.

Mustafi is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, making you think that the Gunners could raise some money from his sale.

He has been linked with a move to Barcelona and also a move to Genoa, but if Romano is correct, then nothing has happened yet.

The Gunners have managed to agree a deal for Mesut Ozil to leave the club and have also agreed to end Sokratis’ contract, so they are beginning to shift players off the wage bill.

Given that Mustafi has barely played this season, you would think they would be happy to let him go and the player sounds happy to leave as well, so hopefully, a solution is found that will suit both the player and the club.
