Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has been discussing Gunners midfielder Emile Smith Rowe and his current fitness situation ahead of the north London club’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at the weekend.

This comes after Watts recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Mikel Arteta’s side.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

On the subject of Smith Rowe and his current fitness levels after the Englishman was forced off the pitch during Arsenal’s recent 3-1 win over Southampton, Watts had this to say on the matter and whether or not he will be available to play against United.

He said: “Smith Rowe has just played an awful lot of football at the moment. I think Arsenal knew he wasn’t going to last a full game against Southampton in midweek, he got to [the] hour mark before having to come off.

“Arsenal are trying to make sure that the new workload that he is suddenly getting, and the game time, didn’t do too much [damage] on his body and they’re trying to manage him through that.

“I still think he should be alright for the weekend.”

As a product of Arsenal’s youth academy, Smith Rowe made his senior debut for the club back in September 2018 under former Gunners manager Unai Emery.

Since then, the 20-year-old who is currently valued at £2.43 million, has made 23 appearances for Arteta’s side in which he has managed to score five goals and provide five assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Smith Rowe…

Given how Smith Rowe has made an appearance in all of Arsenal’s six previous Premier League games and managed to provide three assists throughout those games, it’s understandable why the club are trying their best to manage his fitness so he can play as much as possible.

Has Smith Rowe been Arsenal's best player so far this season?

Yes

No

In our view, based on the creative impact he has had on the team during his previous league appearances for Arsenal and the fact that he is currently their highest-rated player in the league with a season rating of 7.07/10, if Smith Rowe is fit and available to play against United, this will surely give them a bigger chance of beating the Red Devils.
