In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

On the topic of Mari, who picked up a calf injury in training recently and whether or not he’d be able to play in Arsenal’s next Premier League game against Newcastle United on Monday night, Watts had this to say on the matter. (13.17)

He said: “One player who’s not going to make it is Pablo Mari he’s got a calf injury, obviously missed the game against Palace in midweek.

“Looks like he’ll be out for a while, Mikel Arteta saying he had a calf injury in training ‘I think he will miss a few matches so he’s another one that we will lose.’

“Bit of a blow that for Arsenal, Mari was playing so well looking really solid certainly a blow for him as well because I think he warranted that place in the starting XI and he would have kept it had he not been injured because you’ve just been playing too well that you don’t take that sort of player out when he’s on a good run form, him and [Rob] Holding were playing nicely together.”

Arsenal originally signed Mari on a loan deal from Flamengo in the previous January transfer window before signing him on a permanent deal in the previous summer window for a fee of £3.6 million.

Overall, the 27-year-old, who is currently valued at £6.3 million, has made just nine appearances for the north London club.

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Mari…

Given how Mari has managed to earn himself an impressive season rating of 6.96/10 for his performances in the Premier League so far this season, you can see why Watts described it as a blow for Arsenal, as it places him as the club’s second-highest rated player in the whole squad.
