Joe Urquhart doesn’t think Leeds United will be in a position to spend big this window, but that might not necessarily be a good or a bad thing.

Leeds United’s style of play has come in for a lot of questioning this year, but one thing that has perhaps slipped under the radar is the size of the squad, which has led to Marcelo Bielsa using the second least amount of players in the Premier League this campaign.

Bielsa has talked before about the reason he prefers to have a small squad, saying he likes to work with a strong ‘core’ of the side so that he doesn’t have to deal with too many players who are struggling for game time.

And speaking on the latest edition of the Inside Elland Road podcast, Urquhart thinks that there is a slight danger with what they are doing, but that he doesn’t see anything changing for the time being, and as a result, there shouldn’t be much money spent in January.

He said: “It’s just because the squad is a bit thin and the way that Bielsa likes it, you are only ever one or two injuries away from feeling like it’s a mini-crisis as we’ve seen defensively, but they’ve dealt with everything that’s been thrown at them. I don’t think there’s any need to worry about going and splashing money this month.”

TIF Thoughts on Urquhart’s claims surrounding Marcelo Bielsa’s setup…

Whilst Bielsa’s methods have got them to where they are now in terms of being in the Premier League, we have seen the injuries start to mount up in recent weeks, which have led to some mixed results, but for the most part, they have weathered the storm and things aren’t a total disaster with the team currently sitting 12th in the division.

So it is possible that there might be some tweaks to the squad, but don’t expect Leeds to be spending large amounts of money like they did with some of their players in the summer in order to set things straight.
