Leeds United fans have been left drooling over a rather exciting moment during their club’s U23 game against Stoke City.
As noted by Phil Hay, the U23 side at Elland Road isn’t handled the same as other Premier League clubs, often seen as a chance for more senior players to get minutes under their belt, similar to that of ‘reserve sides’ from days gone by.
One of those players who’s using those minutes to impress is Diego Llorente, who is valued at £18 million (as per Transfermarkt), as he nearly pulled off something spectacular in their victory. Early in the first half, he won the ball about 35 yards from goal and unleashed a shot that had the Potters keeper troubled before sailing just wide.
He also went on to find the back of the net with what was the only goal of the game as he got on the end of Kalvin Phillips’ cross.
A lot of Leeds fans were delighted with what they’d seen and heard on the defender:
“Him and De Paul to start against Newcastle please”
“I can’t wait for him to be in the starting 11”
Should Diego Llorente go straight into the team when he is fit?
No, he's not ready
Yes, he will be ready
Having been signed this summer, he’s found time hard to come by, but if he impresses Marcelo Bielsa like he has done these fans, then that wait could soon be over.
