Many Celtic fans have been talking about the club’s links with a move to sign Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy.

Eurosport recently reported that Celtic are eyeing a move for McCarthy and they are working hard to sort out a recruitment plan to sign the midfielder. The report claims that the Hoops admire McCarthy for his playing style and believe that the 30-year-old could re-energise the side.

The report also claims that to sign McCarthy, Celtic would have to make some space in their first-team and free up some cash. To do that, they might have to sell Olivier Ntcham and they could have a decision to make, when it comes to deciding the future of Odsonne Edouard.

McCarthy, who is currently valued at £4.05m, has made only five Premier League appearances this season for Roy Hodgson’s side. His last appearance came from the bench back in early November against Leeds United (as per Transfermarkt).

Some other Celtic fans also wouldn’t like the 30-year-old to arrive at Parkhead.

As things stand, Celtic have four options for the central midfield position – Callum McGregor, David Turnbull, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham. They have three options for the defensive midfield position too (as per Transfermarkt).

This clearly points towards the fact that there is enough depth in that part of the pitch and unless someone leaves, the Hoops shouldn’t sign McCarthy. He is 30 and has had multiple injury troubles over the last few seasons anyway. So perhaps, Celtic shouldn’t move to sign the former Everton man.
