Celtic: Fans flock to update about Mark McKenzie

Many Celtic fans have been talking about an update regarding Mark McKenzie that Anthony Joseph recently relayed on social media.

Joseph’s latest tweet stated that Belgian side Genk have now made an offer of £3.6m to sign McKenzie from Philadelphia Union. His tweet also suggested that the American defender is currently attracting the attention of Celtic and Premier League clubs.

MLS Soccer has also reported Philadelphia Union now have an agreement in place to sell McKenzie to Genk. The deal also includes a sell-on percentage, in case of a future transfer for the American centre-back. The report also states that Celtic did make an offer in the summer but it was turned down.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

The 21-year-old defender was a regular for his club last season, making 26 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals as well (as per Transfermarkt). Some other Hoops fans also made their annoyance clear about Joseph’s update.

Makes sense, we’ll have Neil Lennon telling us he’s content with his defensive options and has no plans to strengthen it.

In the most recent MLS season, McKenzie was a finalist for MLS Defender of the Year award and was also named in the 2020 MLS Best XI.

Perhaps, that should be a reflection of the player’s quality and it shows that McKenzie would’ve been a good signing for Celtic. Missing out on him wouldn’t be a good thing, especially considering how long they’ve been looking at him.
