Many Celtic fans have been talking about the latest tweet from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, who relayed an update involving Philadelphia Union defender Mark McKenzie.

The tweet relayed what Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner has had to say about McKenzie’s situation. He said that Celtic will face competition from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs for the American centre-back and while the Hoops were looking to sign him in the summer, they decided to pursue Shane Duffy instead.

Another tweet in the thread from the journalist said that the Bhoys are looking to sign a centre-back in January and McKenzie happens to be high on the shortlist.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

McKenzie was a regular for Philadelphia Union in the previous season of Major League Soccer. He made 26 appearances in all competitions, also scoring two goals for the club (as per Transfermarkt).

As a result of his performances, McKenzie was a part of the MLS Best XI of the season. Some other Celtic fans also discussed this update involving the 21-year-old.

Some of these Celtic fans are disappointed to hear that the Hoops decided to sign Duffy instead of McKenzie in the summer and one fan feels that the Bhoys will also fail in their pursuit of McKenzie.

Duffy has picked up disappointing ratings against the likes of Hibernian, Motherwell, Sparta Prague, Lille and Aberdeen in recent weeks. This clearly suggests that he’s been poor at Parkhead so far and because of that, Neil Lennon’s men shouldn’t hesitate to bring another central defender in.

Therefore, it may make sense for them to sign McKenzie as soon as they can.
