Rory Fallow and Matthew Keeling spent some time discussing Sunderland’s 1-0 League One loss to Wigan Athletic this past weekend, in what was new manager Lee Johnson’s first game in charge of the Black Cats, during the latest edition of the Wise Men Say podcast

They touched on Bailey Wright’s performance in this game while reacting to their side’s loss and Fallow was full of criticism for him, with the podcaster going so far as to say that this was the £720k-rated centre-back’s worst performance in Sunderland colours.

To kick off this quiz on last weekend's EFL games, by how many goals did Derby County beat Millwall to take themselves off the bottom of the Championship table?

Here is what the podcaster had to say about Wright’s performance versus Wigan in full: “Bailey Wright today – very, very shaky, possibly his worst game since he came in in January if we look at his spell overall. Very, very dodgy performance from him today, wasn’t it?”

TIF Thoughts on what Fallow had to say about Wright…

It may be fair to say that it would be somewhat unusual for Wright to deliver such a bad performance, given that the Australian is the North East club’s third-highest-rated player (7.04/10) for the 2020/21 League One campaign at present, according to WhoScored

However, perhaps you could argue that the 28-year-old didn’t even perform that badly in Saturday’s game, as he was given the highest rating (7.10) of any Black Cats player versus Wigan, as he managed to win the highest number of aerial duels (nine), make the joint-highest number of interceptions (one) and the joint-highest number of clearances (two) of any Sunderland player on Saturday, as per WhoScored.

Do you think Wright played badly versus Wigan?

With that in mind, we feel that Fallow’s criticism of Wright may be particularly harsh and perhaps other Sunderland players deserved to be singled out for their performance in this loss more than him.
