Former Scottish footballer Darren Jackson has made a claim about Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and his current situation at the club.

This comes after Jackson recently made an appearance on The Football Show from PLZ Soccer on YouTube where he spoke about a number of topics concerning a range of clubs in Scotland.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

On the topic of Rangers, Jackson had this to say about Morelos in particular.

He said: “I think the one they’re probably looking to sell is Morelos, and I think that’s why they keep playing him.

“I think from the 29th of December last year up until now, I think he’s scored seven goals. I think he scored 29 in the first five months of the season last year, but they keep on playing on him because I’m not sure they think that [Cedric] Itten’s the answer and Jermain Defoe obviously has a problem starting games just now rather than coming on, so I think they’re playing him [so they] can hopefully start on the goal trail again and get money for him.”

Rangers signed the striker from HJK Helsinki back in the 2017 summer transfer window for a fee of £1.08 million.

Since then, the Colombian, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, has made 159 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side in which he has managed to score 84 goals and provide 33 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Darren Jackson’s comments on Morelos…

Given how Morelos has made 21 appearances for Rangers across all competitions so far this season, there’s every possibility that the club are figuratively putting him in the shop window as Jackson suggested in the hope that he can attract a potential buyer so Rangers can cash in on him.

However, given how the 24-year-old has only managed to score three goals in the 12 SPFL appearances he’s made so far this season, maybe there won’t be many clubs interested in signing Morelos until he starts scoring more regularly.

In our view, if Rangers can sell Morelos for a decent price, they should take it because they have other players in their squad that can replace the Colombian if he were to leave.
