Celtic podcaster Natasha Meikle has recently slammed Neil McCann’s comments about Odsonne Edouard’s panenka penalty in the club’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.

Meikle appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Celtic State of Mind podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. A topic of discussion was Edouard’s panenka penalty in the Cup final on Sunday and the manner in which Neil McCann criticised the Frenchman’s approach for being ‘disrespectful’ to Craig Gordon. Meikle slammed McCann’s comments about the penalty.

Celtic’s second goal of the game came from the penalty spot, as Edouard managed to score with the panenka, putting the ball past Gordon in the Hearts goal. After the game, McCann said that the approach from the Frenchman was ‘selfish’ because Gordon is a former Celtic player.

Was Edouard's penalty disrespectful?

Meikle believes that the pundit’s comments were ridiculous and people shouldn’t tell strikers about scoring only in a certain way.

She said: “Do me a favour, the striker’s standing up to take a penalty – what do you want him to do, only score in a certain way? Is he not trying to score in any way he can? No, come on, give me a break, that’s absolutely ridiculous. I think Neil McCann, out of everyone, had the most ridiculous comment on that.”

TIF Thoughts on Meikle’s comments about Edouard’s penalty…

While Gordon is a former Celtic player and he conceded from the panenka, he got yellow carded for his reaction to the spot-kick. The goalkeeper had thrown the ball at Edouard after the striker had scored (as per The Scottish Sun).

Edouard was taken off in the 97th minute of the game, as Leigh Griffiths came on to score a goal. He also slotted away a penalty in the shootout to help the Hoops win the game (as per WhoScored).

So Edouard’s penalty did help Celtic win the game and if there’s anything which was wrong – it was Gordon’s reaction to being beaten by his former teammate.
