Celtic podcaster Barry Gallagher has recently slammed Scott Brown for his performances this season.

Gallagher was a guest on the latest episode of the Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the form of Scott Brown. Gallagher feels that the veteran midfielder is finished as a player and like Neil Lennon, he should be taken out of the firing line by the club.

Brown has been at Celtic since he joined the club from Hibernian in the summer of 2007 for a fee of £5.94 million. Following Celtic’s recent draw against Hibs, Lennon had openly criticised Brown for an error in the lead-up to the opening goal. The midfielder has made 14 Premiership appearances this season.

Have Celtic been late to replace Scott Brown?

Gallagher feels that there is no point in playing Brown in every game, if Lennon has to substitute him all the time.

He said (43:48): “He’s finished and the fact that we keep taking him off surely that should tell you that he’s not doing it, so why start him in the first place? It’s just frustrating. It’s a sad end for him – the way it’s petering out but again, like Lennon should be removed from the firing line, Scott Brown is to be as well from the pitch.”

TIF Thoughts on Gallagher’s comments about Scott Brown…

Brown has been a regular in the midfield for Celtic this season and has made 24 appearances in all competitions so far. In the Premiership, he has picked up a rating of 6.82 so far and as many as 14 players have picked up better ratings than him.

In the Europa League, he hasn’t played the full 90 minutes of a game even once in the group stages of the competition. This suggests that he hasn’t had a great season by any means. At the age of 35, he isn’t getting any younger with every passing day and perhaps, Celtic should consider replacing him soon.
