Celtic podcaster Hamish Carton has recently made a claim about Mikey Johnston and his return to the club’s first-team fold.

Carton appeared on the latest video of the 67HailHail YouTube channel and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Mikey Johnston and his return to the club’s first-team. Carton feels that the Scotsman could prove to be like a new signing for the Bhoys and he should also look to play for Scotland in the upcoming Euro 2020.

Can Mikey Johnston's return help Celtic win 10IAR?

No

Johnston had missed quite a few games due to injury in the current season but the winger returned to action for the Hoops in their recent Premiership game against Kilmarnock. He came on in the last few minutes and played just four minutes of the game (as per Transfermarkt).

Carton had high praise for Johnston and what he can bring to the Celtic first-team, now that he is back fit.

He said: “I was going to say that using that old cliche, I think Mikey Johnston is like a new signing, for me. I cannot speak highly enough of that guy, I think he’s brilliant. See if he can stay fit, he’ll be a massive player for us. He, as a player, if he’s looking at his plan for the next 12 months, it should be: win ten in a row with Celtic, get yourself to Euro 2020 with Scotland. I genuinely believe those are both achievable for him.”

TIF Thoughts on Carton’s comments about Johnston…

Johnston is a product of the Celtic youth academy and the young winger broke into the club’s first team back in the 2017/18 campaign. Since then, the 21-year-old has made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys and has already contributed to 19 goals so far (as per Transfermarkt).

In the 2019/20 campaign, Johnston contributed to six goals in 11 appearances. This suggests that Johnston might have the qualities to become an important player for the Bhoys but injuries have been a problem for him in recent seasons. So the 21-year-old’s progress might depend on his fitness and if he stays injury-free, Johnston may become an important player for Celtic.
