Journalist Michael Gannon has made a claim about the possibility of Celtic bringing back Fraser Forster in the January transfer window.

Gannon appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the club’s goalkeeper situation and Gannon urged Celtic to sort out that position in January. He also believes that Celtic could face the same issues involving Forster in January as they did in the summer.

Celtic had tried to sign Forster in the summer transfer window and while a deal was agreed with Southampton, things had gone quiet from the player’s end of the deal. Forster then decided to stay at Southampton to fight for his place at the club. It has been reported that the Hoops will look to sign him in January too.

Gannon believes that Celtic could face similar sort of issues in January, if they look to bring the Englishman back to Parkhead.

He said: “I know it’s early days for Barkas, you’d loath to be the guy after a few months. You don’t actually see him making glaring errors but he’s just not a big enough presence for this kind of club at the moment. I think they’ll have to address in January, if they want to keep in this title race. Whether or not they can persuade Fraser Forster again, I don’t know. It’s still the same problem as it were in the summer, in terms of him as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Gannon’s comments regarding Forster…

Forster is yet to make a single first-team appearance for Southampton this season and this shows that he hasn’t managed to break into the side yet.

Last season, the Englishman had come up with important penalty saves in the League Cup final against Rangers and in the Europa League against Copenhagen. He had also impressed in Celtic’s Europa League game against Lazio.

This shows that he is a big-game player and he was very important for the Hoops last season. So they should try their best to bring him back in January.
