Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about the club’s ownership.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the club’s ownership and the protests against the club’s board. Dykes revealed that he did talk to someone close to the club and the response from the source was – ‘be careful what you wish for’.

Celtic fans have already made their opinion clear about the club’s board, putting out messages such as ‘Sack the Board’ in the areas around Parkhead. Some fans have even described Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon as the ‘men who blew the ten’ for the Hoops.

Dykes revealed details about a chat with someone who is close to the club and he said (31:40): “I’ve spoken to someone pretty close to the club and their view on it is – ‘be careful what you wish for, because you could be run by another organisation who are running other clubs in Scotland at the moment or you could be run by someone that would be akin to a previous incumbent in the Celtic boardroom’. We all know there some real incompetents previously.

“I don’t think that washes with me anymore because we’ve got to deal with the here and now. I do think the squad’s been managed poorly, there’s been a complacency by the club. That goes throughout the club.”

TIF Thoughts on Dykes’ comments about the club’s board…

The club’s board has publicly backed Neil Lennon to turn things around at the Celtic, who are 13 points behind the Gers in a season where they are looking to win their tenth title in a row.

The Hoops are already out of the League Cup and the Europa League. They have won just three in the last 13 games in all competitions and they’ve won just a single league game in the last five outings (as per Transfermarkt).

Nothing about the form suggests that Lennon can still turn things around and since the club is still backing Lennon, it is understandable why fans have been protesting against the ownership. And because of that, Dykes’ concerns are fair too.
