Dean Jones has been speaking on a recent edition of Touchline Talk along with Pete O’Rourke about news from clubs across England and Scotland.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

One of the teams that he spent some time on was Celtic, and some potential candidates to take over from Neil Lennon should the Celtic board decide to get rid of him.

The Northern Irishman is under increasing pressure after a poor run of form, but as of now, the Celtic board are sticking with their man in the hope that he will turn it around.

However, Jones still decided to talk about Lennon’s potential replacements, and one of the people he mentioned was former Hoops boss Martin O’Neill.

He said: “Martin O’Neill has been close to Neil Lennon.

“He’s been advising him, and he’s been a mentor to him throughout his career, really.

“Somebody like that at least could bring things back around.”

Would you like to see O'Neill back at Celtic?

TIF Thoughts on O’Neill…

The former Aston Villa boss has been linked with a return to Celtic Park, and while Jones did not mention he was interested, given his success with the club, you would think he could be tempted.

However, given that he has apparently mentored Lennon throughout the former Leicester City player’s managerial career, would he feel strange replacing him if it came to that?

We don’t know, but it could be a problem.

There have been claims that Lennon has lost the dressing room, and considering from the 30th August until 4th October they won eight games in a row and have now only won one match in nine, that could be the case.

68-year-old O’Neill is known as a motivator, so he could be the man to save Celtic’s season.

He also knows the club and has experience of managing them, so we feel that if the Bhoys do decide to get rid of Lennon, they could do a lot worse than bring in O’Neill.
