Celtic legend Chris Sutton has recently given his opinion about the club’s star striker Odsonne Edouard.

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One player that they focused on was Edouard and Sutton believes that the Frenchman has a ‘huge problem’ right now. Sutton feels that Edouard is playing like he doesn’t want to stay at Parkhead.

Edouard was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window, as clubs like Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Leicester City wanted to sign him. Monaco also made an attempt to sign him in the previous January transfer window.

Sutton feels that Edouard isn’t doing enough right now and his situation is ‘alarming’ for the Hoops.

He said: “I think Odsonne Edouard’s got a huge problem. Because I think he is so, so talented. I think he’s built a reputation up over the last couple of seasons where all Europe’s big clubs would’ve been looking at him, watching him really closely. And he’s built a great reputation and within the space of a couple of months this season and the way he’s playing at this moment in time, I think he’s doing himself a great deal of harm.

“Now, everybody goes through peaks and troughs in their career – I understand that. But this is pretty alarming, what’s happened to him at the start of this season and the way it’s carrying on. We’re seeing glimpses, like the goal we saw in Prague, but he’s not doing enough.

“I don’t have a problem with him wanting to move away, I don’t actually know whether he does want to move away or not – he’s playing like he doesn’t want to be there. But if he wants to get his big move, then he needs to start performing in a Celtic jersey.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Sutton’s comments regarding Odsonne Edouard…

During the summer transfer window, Neil Lennon had said that transfer speculation surrounding Edouard had affected the player and had hoped that the Frenchman would ‘calm down’ after the window closed (as per BBC Sport).

This suggests that Edouard wasn’t exactly settled at Celtic in the summer. Considering how his last goal from open play in the Premiership came in the first game of the campaign – with his goals against Ross County and Hibernian being penalties), his performances haven’t been great. So if Edouard really needs a move, he would need to improve his performances and prove his worth to potential suitors.
