West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has explained the Hammers’ plan for veteran centre-back Winston Reid.

The 32-year-old New Zealand international has been with the Irons since the London Stadium club signed him from FC Midtjylland for £3.78m in the summer of 2010 (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, he has made 223 appearances for West Ham, in which he has managed to bag 10 goals and provide 10 assists for teammates.

On his current deal at the London Stadium, Reid has until the summer of 2023 with the club and a market value of £1.35m according to Transfermarkt.

During the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee explained what the future held for the 32-year-old central defender.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Unfortunately for Winston Reid, I think the club are looking at a solution to his future. I think it’s been decided that he doesn’t have much future.

“I mean, he could be called into the squad in January but I think ideally, for both parties, they want to come to an amicable agreement now where he maybe has a mutual termination – which would be a sad way to end.

“It’ll be a sad day when he actually does leave permanently but I think because of the wages he’s on, the injuries he’s got and the fact that [Issa] Diop’s fifth-choice centre-back, that makes him sixth-choice centre-back.

“I think he’s probably on too much money, which is sad. I’d love for Winnie to come back and be the player he was but I think the club have thought that he probably won’t be.”

TIF Thoughts on what @ExWHUemployee said about Winston Reid…

As can be seen in what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, he believes that the Irons have made their mind up on Reid and he will likely be departing the club.

Do you think West Ham should agree a mutual termination for Winston Reid's contract?

No, he should stay

No, he should stay

Yes, he should go

Yes, he should go

With the defender not having made an appearance in the Premier League for West Ham now since the 2017/18 season (per Transfermarkt), the termination of his contract would perhaps not come as a surprise.

Having also earned a weak 6.15/10 average rating over two MLS appearances for Kansas City during a recent loan (per WhoScored), that would suggest that he is perhaps no longer of a good enough standard.

So, it would appear that a mutual termination may be a sensible option.
