Football pundit Garth Crooks has slated West Bromwich Albion’s Darnell Furlong for being booked in the first half against Newcastle United.

During the latest round of Premier League fixtures, Slaven Bilic’s Baggies travelled to St. James’ Park to take on the Toon (per Premier League).

In the first half of the clash, Furlong received a booking in the 35th minute as West Brom were getting ‘frustrated’ (per BBC).

To receive the booking, there was a coming together between the 25-year-old defender and Newcastle’s Jamal Lewis, which saw both players get booked.

During BBC Sport’s Final Score, Crooks discussed the incident and ripped into the Baggies’ defender.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

He said: “Now, what you do is you turn to the referee and you say, ‘Referee,’ and he gets booked – not you. There’s a way of dealing with it.

“The manager should be telling his players, ‘What are you doing? You do that again, I’m fining you. You’re stupid.’

“They can’t afford it.”

TIF Thoughts on what Garth Crooks said about Darnell Furlong…

As can be seen in what Crooks had to say, he believed that Furlong handled the situation with Lewis poorly and Bilic should be frustrated with him for that.

The pundit went as far as to say that the defender’s action was “stupid” because West Brom “can’t afford it” at the moment as they are struggling in the league.

With Furlong having bagged a goal for the Baggies in the second half, though, perhaps Bilic will be more interested in that than the booking he picked up.

However, with West Brom sitting in the lower reaches of the Premier League table due to their poor form in the early stages of the season, possible suspensions for “stupid” bookings are the last thing they need.
