Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold spent some time talking about the future of Spurs midfielder Oliver Skipp, who is currently on loan at Championship side Norwich City, during the latest video that has been posted to his YouTube channel.
Skipp has made 23 first-team appearances for the Lilywhites thus far in his young career and it may be fair to say that the Tottenham academy product has been a key member of Norwich’s side in the second tier this term, starting all 16 of their league fixtures so far.
It’s surely a positive sign for the Lilywhites that their midfielder, who was tipped to have a bright future by none other than current Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho in the not-so-distant past, has been such a prominent member of the current Championship leaders’ squad this term.
Gold shared some excitement over how Skipp has been developing on loan at Carrow Road, with the journalist stating that he could even see the 20-year-old cementing himself as part of Tottenham’s starting XI next season.
He said: “Everyone at the club has massive hopes for him and he’s gone away to Norwich absolutely proving it – [he’s an] England U21 regular now as well.
“For me, I see him coming back and not only being a potential backup for [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg when he gets injured, but I think he could take on that role alongside him.
“I think he’s a very technically good young player who’s also capable of getting up the pitch and I do think, for [Moussa] Sissoko and [Harry] Winks, long-term, I think he’s the threat. I think him alongside Hojbjerg could be a very, very, very good partnership.
“That base in the midfield with either of them taking turns at being a box-to-box kind of player could be very exciting.”

Mourinho has referred to Skipp as ‘Tottenham’s future’ in the past, with the Spurs manager going so far as to say that the £6.48m-rated man, who comes from a Spurs-supporting family, could even become the north London club’s captain one day.
Additionally, Mourinho also indicated that he selfishly wanted Skipp to remain at Tottenham this season instead of going out on loan because of how much value he’d have added to the Lilywhites’ squad.
As a result, it’s clear that Mourinho believes Skipp could well contribute to Spurs’ first team already and if he continues to impress on loan at Norwich, then perhaps he will convince the Portuguese coach to give him a chance to take a spot in the starting XI next season upon the conclusion of his loan.
Given that he went out on loan despite Mourinho indicating that he wanted him to stay at Spurs, perhaps the player does place a significant amount of importance on game time, so maybe he too will expect his role within Tottenham’s first team to grow if he is to remain at the club next season.
So, with all of that in mind, perhaps Gold isn’t too far off the mark and maybe there is a chance that Skipp could become a first-team regular for the Lilywhites in the near future.
