Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur have recently reacted to some comments from Jose Mourinho regarding Dele Alli which recently emerged on Twitter.
On Wednesday night, Spurs sealed their passage to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup by defeating Championship side Stoke City 3-1 (per Transfermarkt).
During his post-match press conference after the match, the north London club’s Portuguese manager discussed the English midfielder.
He said: “For me, a player that plays in that position is a player that has to link and has to create and not to create problems for his own team.”
These comments were relayed to fans on social media by the Evening Standard journalist James Robson and they had lots of fans talking.
So, what did these Spurs fans have to say about Jose Mourinho’s comments on Dele Alli?
“Totally out of order! Alli worked socks off first half and initiator of most chances. Issue is that he wants to play football with invention and not be bored with Jose way.”
“Nah Mou is wrong for this, Dele actually had a proper game today”
During the match against the Potters, Alli began the game but was substituted off the field in the second half for Erik Lamela (per WhoScored).
Alli picked up a 6.76/10 rating for his performance, making him the third-worst performer to start the game for Tottenham.
Were Jose Mourinho's comments on Dele Alli overly harsh?
No, he was correct
Yes, he was wrong
“Seems unfair considering how quick he was to forgive Aurier for making his 1,000th unforced error recently!”
In the Premier League this season, the 24-year-old middleman has made four appearances for Mourinho’s side, in which he has neither scored nor assisted a goal (per WhoScored).
His performances have been unimpressive, too, as he has picked up a weak 6.11/10 average rating, making him the worst-performing player in the league for the club.
“Dele’s done out here I’m afraid”
“He actually might have a dele agenda”
As can be seen in these responses from Spurs fans, lots of them had something to say after the comments from Mourinho on Alli emerged on Twitter.
