Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur have recently flocked to comments made by former Arsenal player Paul Merson ahead of the North London derby.
Today, the Gunners travel to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Jose Mourinho’s outfit in a 4:30pm kick-off (per Premier League).
Ahead of the match, Merson discussed the derby and aired his concern for Mikel Arteta’s side as Spurs have been in impressive form recently.
He said: “I worry for them, I dread it, I can’t see how Arsenal win it, Spurs are just looking so good right now under Jose Mourinho.”
The comments were made on Sky Sports and were shared on Twitter by Football Daily, which then led to the clip being relayed to Tottenham fans by Last Word On Spurs.
It’s safe to say that a lot of Spurs fans were worried after Merson’s comments.
So, what did Tottenham fans have to say about Paul Merson’s comments?

Great, if Paul Merson thinks we are winning we are doomed

This is actually more dangerous now the way everyone has totally underrated Arsenal for this match. It just makes the game more slippery for Tottenham. #THFC wins and it’s ‘oh what do you expect’. Arsenal wins and it’s ‘Are Tottenham really good enough?’. I don’t like this…

The last time the two sides met back in July, Mourinho’s side claimed victory at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a 2-1 win (per 11v11).
Are you confident ahead of the North London derby?
No, we will lose it
Yes, we will win it
I don’t like commentators and others trying to put pressure on Spurs saying we will win easily, it’s a derby, it’s never easy!

Too much talk about bad they are and how great we are. No way it’s going to be that simple. The risk of complacency worries me and as a Spurs fan we’ve seen it too many times.

Jinxed it
— Lloyd (@LGW77) December 5, 2020
So far this season, Tottenham have been in solid form in the top flight as they have won six, drawn three and lost one of their opening 10 matches (per BBC).
The Gunners, however, have been in much weaker form as they have won four, drawn one and lost five of their first 10 outings.
Paul Merson was scripted it perfectly. Another jinx coming up lads ?

That’s 3 points to arsenal then. Mersons always wrong
— Gary Clark (@Clark06Gary) December 5, 2020
As can be seen in what these Tottenham fans had to say, they believed Merson’s comments to have been some kind of jinx for their club.
