Prominent journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently talked about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in signing Marcel Sabitzer.

Romano recently appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast and he talked about multiple potential transfers in European football. He also addressed Spurs’ links with a move for Leipzig star Sabitzer. The journalist revealed that Spurs aren’t negotiating with the German club for Sabitzer and there is no agreement on that front.

Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur had reported recently that Sabitzer has asked to join Mourinho’s side next month but any deal would depend on Dele Alli’s future. RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche also confirmed that clubs are keeping an eye on the Austrian.

When talking about these rumours, Romano said: “There have always been a lot of rumours about Sabitzer, about Tottenham just because it’s true that he’s so appreciated. We are talking about a quality player, so he would be, in my opinion, perfect for the Premier League. So that’s why Tottenham are scouting him for months, years, for sure he’s an appreciated player by Jose Mourinho. So this is true but it’s nothing new.

“I saw lot of rumours about advanced talks. At the moment, Leipzig say – they don’t have anything advanced yet, they hope to keep the player in January, it will depend if any club will arrive with big money for Sabitzer.

“At the moment, Tottenham are interested but they are not negotiating with details and everything to sign the player. For sure, what we can say is that the player is appreciated but still nothing advanced also because there are other clubs. So also in this situation, no rush because we are at the end of December and we have to what’s going on in January. Sabitzer is appreciated but there are no advanced talks for Sabitzer.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments about Sabitzer…

The 26-year-old Sabitzer has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing to six goals so far. In the Bundesliga, the Austrian has scored on three occasions in the current campaign (as per Transfermarkt). He is a versatile player who can play in the central midfield position, but can also ply his trade in attacking midfield and the right-wing.

Julian Nagelsmann has previously praised Sabitzer for his leadership and for his consistency. This shows that the 26-year-old brings multiple qualities to the table and would’ve been a very good signing for Spurs, but the fact that nothing is advance in this regard should disappoint Spurs fans.
