Many Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to slate Sean Longstaff for his performance in the Toon’s 2-1 Premier League win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Longstaff played the entirety of this game while his brother, Matty, spent the full 90 minutes on the bench.
In their post-match player ratings, 90min gave the £15.75m-rated midfielder an underwhelming 5/10 rating, but stated that he became ‘more important as the game went on.’
Per Sky Sports, in the 62nd minute, Longstaff hit the target with a ‘well-struck shot’ that was ultimately saved by Baggies ‘keeper Sam Johnstone.
However, all of that didn’t count for much in the eyes of many Newcastle fans as plenty of Toon supporters took to Twitter to slate the 23-year-old Newcastle academy graduate for his performance in Saturday’s game.
So, what did these Newcastle United fans have to say about Sean Longstaff’s performance versus West Brom?
Longstaff is really lazy

I’m sick of Longstaff. He’s absolutely woeful with and without the ball #nufc

Some Toon fans shared that they don’t think Longstaff brought much to the table for Steve Bruce’s side in this win over the Baggies, with one particular supporter of the North East club suggesting that Longstaff is a problem that ‘needs sorting in January’.
Longstaff offers absolutely nothing

Longstaff needlessly putting us under pressure again. It needs sorting in January.

All in all, as can be seen from these Toon supporters’ tweets, Longstaff’s performance for Newcastle in this win over West Brom certainly seems to have had a negative impact on his standing amongst fans of the club, and in that case, hopefully for the player and the club’s fans, he doesn’t turn in too many more performances like that this term, as it surely wouldn’t do his reputation any good.
