Many Newcastle United fans have been slating Joelinton for his performance in the Toon’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Manchester City on Saturday evening

Joelinton was on the pitch for 71 minutes. The Brazilian started this game as a lone striker for the Toon but was replaced by Andy Carroll midway through the second half.

Easy one to get us underway, in what month during 2019 was Steve Bruce appointed Newcastle manager?

In their post-match ratings for this fixture, 90min handed Joelinton a 5/10, which is the joint-lowest rating that they gave to any Newcastle player for their performance versus City, and they justified this rating by explaining that the £18m-rated man: ‘Spent the evening jumping as high as he could to try and beat three defenders in the air. A tactic that was very unlikely to bear fruit.’

Judging by these Toon fans’ tweets, it would seem as though plenty of Newcastle United supporters also feel that Joelinton put on a very unproductive display at the Etihad Stadium.

So, what have these Newcastle United fans had to say about Joelinton’s performance versus City?

While some Toon fans slated his quality, one particular Newcastle supporter blasted Joelinton’s work ethic, branding him ‘lazy.’

“Don’t think that was too bad ! 1-0 still have a chance, have to change it up front though, joelinton is useless as lone striker #NUFC”

Meanwhile, some Newcastle fans pointed out Joelinton’s first touch as a particularly notable weakness to his game.

So, as can be seen from these Newcastle fans’ tweets, it certainly seems as though Joelinton failed to impress fans of the North East club in this Boxing Day fixture and they will be hoping to see the Toon’s all-time record transfer signing produce better performances than that moving forward.
