Many Newcastle United fans have flocked to Twitter to discuss Matt Ritchie’s performance in the Toon’s latest Premier League clash with Manchester City

Ritchie started this game for Newcastle United, which may not have come as a massive surprise, given that he started two of the North East club’s last three top-flight games preceding this trip to the Etihad Stadium after recovering from the shoulder injury which sidelined him for some time earlier on in the 2020/21 campaign.

His start versus Pep Guardiola’s side may not be one to remember for the Scotsman, however, as he was ‘caught napping’ and beaten by Raheem Sterling, who then went on to help City open the scoring in the 14th minute.

So, what did these Newcastle United fans have to say about Ritchie’s performance versus Manchester City?

The role the 31-year-old played in that opening goal may give us one explanation as to why so many Newcastle fans have been slating Ritchie for his performance in this game on Twitter.

Has Ritchie played badly versus City?

“Ritchie has been good for us the past 3 or 4 years but he desperately needs binning off, far too slow to play further forward and no defensive awareness to play wing back”

“Ritchie absolutely stinks but continues to get a game.”

All in all, it’s clear that Ritchie has failed to win over many Toon fans via his first-half performance versus Manchester City.
