Many Newcastle United fans have been talking about a news update involving Andy Carroll that recently emerged on social media.
Former West Brom forward Kevin Phillips was recently talking to West Brom News and urged the Baggies to sign Carroll. He believes that the Newcastle man can be ‘unplayable’ on his day and it is all about keeping the Englishman fit.
Should Newcastle let Carroll leave?
Yes
No
Phillips also went on to express his doubts about whether Steve Bruce would be interested in letting Carroll leave if the striker stays fit.
This news update was relayed on Twitter by The Chronicle recently and many Newcastle fans began talking about whether they’d be happy to see Carroll leave.
What did Newcastle fans make of this tweet about Andy Carroll?
“Yep. Contributes nothing. Less effective than Joelinton”
Carroll had re-joined Newcastle in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer. His initial stint at St. James’ Park had ended in January 2011, when he had joined Liverpool.
Last season, Carroll had missed 14 Premier League games due to injuries or fitness issues. In the current season, the 31-year-old has played only 198 minutes of Premier League football.
Some other Newcastle fans also began talking about Carroll and whether they’d want to see him leave.
“I mean give a free release. We aint getting a penny for his age. Good at holding ball up but way past it even when he was at West ham”
A lot of these Newcastle fans want Carroll gone and they wouldn’t mind it if the Englishman leaves anytime soon.
As per Transfermarkt, the Magpies currently have a total of four options for the striker’s position – Carroll, Callum Wilson, Joelinton and Dwight Gayle. This suggests that there is enough depth there for the club and losing a striker perhaps wouldn’t do too much harm.
And given Carroll has hardly contributed to the first-team, losing him in January or in the summer may not be so detrimental to the Magpies’ cause.
